Open MSc thesis on soil erosion and rock-derived plant nutrients in the tropics
This open Master thesis aims to investigate the effect of erosion on the availability of rock-derived plant nutrients in the humid tropics of Africa.
Deforestation globally increases land degradation and soil erosion, which highly impacts soil organic carbon storage and soil fertility. The Eastern Congo Basin is a frontline of land use change, but is still highly understudied. This master thesis will be a part of the TropSOC project and aims to understand if erosion on hillslopes brings the bedrock into the weathering front and can release new nutrients. You will get familiar with the legacy data, complement your dataset with own laboratory analyses and work on statistical analysis.
